Dress Forms Are The Perfect Display Mannequins For Your Designer Clothing Boutique

For centuries, the fashion industry has relied on display mannequins of one kind or another so that their clients would not have to endure long fittings. Sometimes, a dress form was custom-made as a clients’ exact body double.

Those were some lucky ladies, as I see it. I’d pay a pretty penny (if I had one) for my own personal dress form at some of the designer boutiques I pass by every day in my Brooklyn neighborhood. I imagine finding a large ribboned box at my door every other day or so, opening it to find, there nestled in tissue paper, a breathtaking dress in just my size…

But I digress. My point here is about dress forms. Dress forms are hands down the hottest choice for display mannequins in boutiques showcasing handmade, designer or vintage apparel.

A dress formĀ  has a timeless feel that’s all the rage at the same time. Its shape suggests sewing and the D.I.Y. aesthetic for good reason–because it’s what designers use.

Plus, using dress forms as display mannequins leaves window shoppers like me even more room to imagine themselves wearing those clothes. Hey, we think, that dress needs a home. Imagine if it were made just for me.
